The largest car manufacturers around the world are now on par. We present to your attention the TOP-10 ranking according to the results of sales in 2009. The renowned market research institute IHS Automotive has also analyzed the development outlook until 2015.

1. Toyota

Concern Toyota in 2009 was number 1 in the world ranking of automakers. Toyota sold 7.4 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. Renowned market research institute IHS Automotive predicts that by 2015 Toyota will increase the number of cars produced to 10.2 million.

2. Volkswagen

In 2009, the VW concern became number 2. The number of produced cars and commercial vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons was 6.4 million units. Concern from Wolfsburg (Wolfsburg) is going to significantly reduce the gap to the leader: expected sales per year are projected at 9.1 million vehicles. Until 2018, Volkswagen intends to become the No. 1 company in the world. At the same time, the partner Suzuki was not yet taken into account - only 9 brands from 7 European countries were counted: Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, VW Nutzfahrzeuge, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Scania. Porsche will be included in the overall statistics from 2011.

3. General Motors

The world leader, General Motors, is accelerating its financial recovery and striving for success. IHS forecasts sales to increase from 6.1 million to 8.6 million by 2015. Thus, the American concern is and will remain in the third place in the near future.

4. Hyundai

Hyundai, together with its subsidiary Kia, is considered the most aggressive and fastest growing car brand in the world. According to IHS Automotive, the current No. 4 will soon increase its sales from 5.0 to 6.3 million vehicles per year.

5. Ford

Ford is the 2nd largest American manufacturer in the Big Three. In 2009, the concern took 5th place, over the next 5 years its production volume will grow to 6.1 million vehicles. The recovery of the American market, which is currently the second largest in the world after the Chinese, will also play a significant role in this.

6. Honda

Honda is the 2nd largest Japanese car manufacturer. In the world ranking for 2009, the company took 6th place with 3.4 million vehicles. By 2015, growth is expected to reach 5.2 million.

7. Peugeot-Citroen

The French concern PSA took 7th place, having sold 3.2 million Citroen and Peugeot cars in 2009. It is expected to grow to 4.1 million.

8. Nissan

Nissan sold about 3.1 million vehicles in 2009, excluding its strategic partner Renault. This allowed Nissan to take an honorable 8th place in the world ranking. Until 2015 the number of Nissan will increase to 4.9 million per year

9. Fiat

The Italian concern Fiat sold 2.4 million passenger cars in 2009 and took 9th position in the ranking. The chief of the concern Sergio Marchionne is already willingly including the Chrysler cars sold in the totals, although to be honest the Italian company owns only 20% of the American concern. According to cautious forecasts by IHS Automotive, by 2015 Fiat will be able to reach the figure of about 3 million units on its own.

10. Suzuki

The Japanese company Suzuki closes the TOP-10 of the world rating of automakers - 2.3 million cars sold in 2009. By 2015, 2.8 million are projected.
