On the eve of September 1 and the beginning of the school season, analysts from the Levada Center asked themselves what subjects the residents of the Russian Federation consider compulsory, necessary and important for the school.

obux23bvThe survey involved 1600 people in 137 settlements in 48 regions of the country. As a result, it turned out that the respondents least of all like the basics of religion and secular ethics - only 5% supported them. 10. First aid skills and social studies

Humanities in the eyes of the inhabitants of Russia, apparently, are considered unimportant. Social studies with sociology, economics and political science, although included in the top 10 most needed subjects in school, took the last place along with medical care skills. An equal number of respondents supported both subjects - 9%.

9. Geography

One of the most ancient sciences, which originated in the ancient era, is not very popular among Russians - only 10% spoke out for its importance in school education.

8. Labor education

Both geography and social sciences, by a margin of several percent, bypassed labor education. Sociology is sociology, and you need to be able to sew on a button - this is the opinion of 13% of the respondents.

7. Physical education and sports

18% of the respondents believe that the school should help make up for the deficit of active movement for children, created, among other things, by the increased academic load.

6. Natural sciences

During the reform of school education in Russia, the natural sciences suffered the most. The change in the teaching model (from linear to concentric), final exams in a test form, reduced hours, difficulties with equipment (and for chemistry, physics and biology it is extremely important) led to a decline in the prestige of the field of knowledge that was once popular in the USSR among parents and students. Natural sciences were supported by 21% of the respondents.

5. Foreign languages

They open the top five in the ranking of the most important school subjects. There is nowhere without English, and 27% of respondents agree with this.

4. Literature

32% of the respondents consider it necessary for schoolchildren to know the texts that have the greatest cultural significance in the history of Russia and the world. In addition to purely reading and general educational interest, the role of entering culture, understanding its plots, images and motives, and, as a result, the very patriotic and spiritual and moral education about which the majority of respondents are happy, plays a role.

3. History

This school subject was approved by 33% of respondents. On the whole, the majority of former schoolchildren have retained the warmest memories of history - according to the FOM polls, 76% of the respondents liked this subject. The difficulty with history is that it is one of the disciplines in which a lot depends on the personality of the teacher. The second problem is the abundance of ideological manipulations in the presentation of the material and the strong ideologization of the subject.

2. Mathematics

Mathematics is ahead of history by a significant margin of 20% - 53% of respondents advocate its importance, necessity and usefulness. The number of hours spent weekly on mathematics clearly speaks of the importance of the subject in the eyes of teachers and their pupils and parents. Although, oddly enough, all the importance of mathematics miraculously disappears when entering a university (if it is not specialized, of course). And in the future, the first thing that can come in handy is the ability to count money while paying in the supermarket.

1. Russian language

And in the first place in the top 10 most important school subjects, according to respondents, was the Russian language. In the ranking, he leads by a huge margin. 68% were in favor of the great and mighty. And it is not surprising - this is the only subject that will determine the ability to communicate, understand another and convey your point of view for life.
