Almost 70 percent most innovative companies in the world 2017 last year were American. These are the findings of a new study by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), an international consulting firm and the world's leading business strategy consultant.
Apple, Google, Tesla, Microsoft, Amazon and Netflix came in the top six places in the annual poll of 1,500 managers from the 50 largest companies around the world.
Apple tops the BCG Innovation Chart for the 11th consecutive year, which is not surprising given the enormous funding it spends on research and development. The consumer electronics giant spent $ 10 million on this in 2016 (according to published statistics for the fiscal year that ended September 24).
Google has been in second place in the top 50 most innovative companies for the third year in a row with its 20 percent tactic, which encourages employees to devote 20 percent of their time to side projects.
The leaders of the rating of world companies-innovators came out at once two Asian companies - South Korean Samsung Group at number seven, and Japanese Toyota Motor at the eighth position. In total, the list includes six Asian players in the innovation market.
There are more European companies - as many as ten, including Bayer at number 11, BMW at number 14 and Damler at number 16.
But there are no Russian companies on the BCG list.
The most successful innovators today maintain a strategic balance between internal and external innovation. They are smart and efficient at finding outward ideas, and deftly enact them.
A BCG study found that the majority of strong innovators use an analytical approach to chase new ideas. The most successful innovative companies found 65 percent of their new ideas on social media and big data mining. The share of such ideas among outsiders in the rating is 14%.
