The Guardian, using a reader poll, compiled the top 5 best supporting actresses who received an Oscar for their work. Looking at this list, it is impossible not to notice how race and gender previously influenced the choice of character in foreign cinema. Women tended to receive awards for their role as a servant or housewife because they played supporting roles in both life and art. Fortunately, the practice of gender inequality in cinema is a thing of the past.
5. Gloria Graham
