There are so many hotel options around the world that architects, designers and hoteliers are faced with an ever-growing need to make their creations stand out as much as possible. Experiments with design sometimes lead to unexpected results, when looking at which you want to close your eyes, shake your head and forget like a dream. However, as the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and even ugly hotels can be overwhelmed with guests.
Introducing top 10 ugliest hotels in the world according to The Telegraph... The full list includes 24 hotels, but we have selected the most "attractive" of them.
10. Gate Dragon
A themed hotel in the form of a Chinese pagoda surrounded by a completely European fortress wall. Located next to the E4 motorway near the town of Gavle (Sweden). He is the brainchild of the Chinese billionaire Jingchun Li. It took over 10 years to build the Dragon Gate.
The ridiculous, almost prison "exterior" of the building, not to mention the 200 replicas of the terracotta warriors, will hardly allow the hotel to win a beauty contest.
9. W Edinburgh
Plans for an unusual hotel in Edinburgh received the green light last year, despite opposition from local groups. The Telegraph conducted a poll among readers about the design of the hotel and opinions were divided: 29% were positive about the project, 16% saw some potential, while 55% think the hotel looks "terrible - like a giant, ugly ice cream."
8. Inntel Amsterdam Zaandam
The architect of this Dutch masterpiece was inspired by the traditional green houses in Zaandam. It is not clear why he decided that it would be a good idea to pile miniature copies of such houses on top of each other.
7. Ryugyong
The 105-storey hotel in North Korea has earned the nickname "Hotel Doom" and "World's Worst Building." It is not yet in operation, although it is fully completed.
6. The Royal Towers, Atlantis Paradise Island
This is a whole complex of hotels in the Bahamas, which resembles some kind of structure from a Disney movie and is, in fact, a mini-city. It has water attractions, swimming pools, a dolphinarium, restaurants and many other pleasant and necessary establishments for visitors.
5. Hilton
The hotel in Manchester (UK) occupies half of the Beetham Tower, which dominates the city skyline and looks like a huge Playstation that has fallen on its side.
4. First World Hotel
The largest (and also the most flashy painted) hotel not only in Malaysia, but in the world hospitably opened its 7,351 rooms for visitors. Presumably, the riot of color is meant to cheer up the guests, but it is unlikely to improve the mood of those who prefer elegant color schemes to the option "splash all the colors on the wall and see the results."
3. Dog Bark Park Inn
Opens three of the most ugly designed hotels in the world. The Dog Bark Park Inn is located in Idaho and only a dedicated biglephile will want to settle in it. The appearance of the establishment (two huge beagles) vividly reminds of the expressionist pets.
2. The Standard
This somber gray building is located in Meatpacking, New York and is ready to offer its guests a rooftop bar, winter ice rink, free Wi - Fi, and even free bike rental. Anything to divert attention from the gaudy facade.
1. Hotel El Algarrobico
Topping the rating of the ugliest hotels is an impressive structure in Almeria (Spain), both in size and design. It was supposed to open in 2006, but the Spanish authorities declared the construction illegal. Not because the building was too ugly, but because it was built too close to the sea, and inside the protected national park of Cabo de Gata. The hotel was due to be demolished in 2014, but this regulation has been canceled and construction can still be completed. Unfortunately for the eyes of visitors.
