Platts, which provides pricing information in the energy, petrochemical, metals and agricultural markets, has released an annual list of the world's largest energy companies. The numerical ranking of each company is calculated using the value of assets, income, profit and return on investment.
The ranking, which includes 250 companies, is used by industrialists and financiers to identify the largest players in the energy sector, to monitor global trends, and to measure the effectiveness of their own activities in comparison with competitors.
Here's how Platts ranked the top 10 the largest energy companies in the world... Last year, their combined profit was $ 119 billion, and total revenues were $ 1.87 trillion.
10. OJSC Rosneft Oil Co
Russian Rosneft, founded in 1995, is the leader in the domestic oil industry and one of the largest private energy companies in the world. Its name is in the government list of strategic enterprises and organizations of the Russian Federation. In the Platts rating, Rosneft has lost four positions compared to 2014, affected by the collapse of the ruble, but the company is a good example import substitution in Russia.
9. China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd
The Chinese coal king is number two (after Peabody Energy) in the list of the world's largest coal producers by capitalization.
8. Valero Energy Corp
The Texas-based oil company is among the top 100 corporations emitting the most pollutants into the sky over the United States. Valero Energy Corp has manufacturing facilities in 40 states of America, as well as the Caribbean, Canada and Latin America.
7. ConocoPhillips
It was formed through the merger of Conoco Inc. and Phillips Petroleum in 2001. It is engaged in the search, extraction and processing of "black gold" and "blue fuel" in thirty countries of the world.
6. Phillips 66
In 2014, the refinery was involved in the construction of pipelines and oil refineries, as well as export terminals in the United States. Phillips 66 manufactures oils and greases for industrial and civilian applications.
5. PetroChina Co Ltd
The largest producer of oil and gas in China. PetroChina sells its oil and gas products at prices set by the Chinese government.
4. CNOOC Ltd
Another Chinese company in the 2015 top 10 largest energy companies is a member of the government-controlled oil oligopoly. CNOOC Ltd receives 51% of the shares free of charge in any offshore project in which a foreign oil corporation is involved. This allows the company to shift the burden of exploration costs onto foreigners and reap the benefits.
3. Royal Dutch Shell plc
Anglo-Dutch oil giant, headquartered in the Netherlands. Explores, extracts and refines oil and gas. Shell engine oils are included in rating of the best... Also engaged in renewable energy sources in the form of wind and biofuels.
2. Chevron Corp
In 2014, this American energy corporation was ranked third in the Fortune 500, the largest (by sales) company in the United States of America, and 16 in the Fortune Global 500, the world's top 500 corporations.
1. Exxon Mobil Corp
For 11 years in a row, it has held the title of the largest energy company in the world.This integrated oil and gas company, established by John D. Rockefeller in 1882, is involved in the exploration, extraction and sale of oil and natural gas. It also manufactures and markets petrochemical products, including olefins, polyolefins and aromatics.
