The first half of this year was generous with good games. And although it was hard to choose the best games of 2017, since there are very, very many applicants for this title, we studied profile sites such as PCgamer, Gameinonline, Techradar, etc. and compiled for you a selection of games of different genres that have earned praise from gamers and are definitely worth playing them ...
All of the top 10 games are designed for personal computers (PC).
It is interesting: The most anticipated PC games of 2017.
10. Resident Evil 7
Release date: January 2017
The new horror title from Capcom departed from the idea of the last few parts, but that didn't hurt it at all. The tense and fearful atmosphere of the trap in which the protagonist Ethan finds himself, looking for his missing wife, is very close to the first game in the series. In a house full of maniacs and monsters, the player will not leave a feeling of claustrophobia, and often panic, since the stock of weapons and ammunition is extremely limited, and often instead of a spectacular fight with the enemy, you will have to choose the "run and hide" tactics.
Compared to previous games, Resident Evil 7 lost the game element called Quick Time Events, but it reappeared in puzzles, the need to allocate resources and use medicinal herbs.
9. Torment: Tides of Numenera
Release date: February 2017
A worthy successor to the great Planescape: Torment offers gamers the same style of atmospheric and very well-plotted acting in a strange new setting.
This game is unlikely to appeal to fans of action, there is not much of it. But those who like to interact with characters, read walls of text and follow an interesting development of the plot will be delighted with Tides of Numenera. The main character of the game is very similar to the Nameless from Planescape: Torment. He remembers nothing about himself and the world around him, at least at the beginning of the action. But who visited the character's body, where this creature then disappeared and who hunts the hero - to be found out in the course of the game.
8. Nier: Automata
Release date: March 2017
The quirky open world of this RPG from Japanese game designer Yoko Taro will delight gamers who are close to the spirit of anime and manga. A fragile android-chan with a sword (and then more characters will be added to it), a world full of robots, some of which create their own communities and even try to copy human behavior, riddles related to humanity and aliens - all this will immerse the player in addicting gameplay for a long time ...
7. Styx: Shards of Darkness
Release date: March 2017
Pure stealth game with the dastardly goblin Styx in the title role. The player will have to navigate discreetly through beautifully realized levels, all complemented by a superbly flexible skill system that encourages and rewards creative thinking. But it is not recommended to fight people on equal terms with Styx, only ambush attacks, only hardcore.
6. Outlast 2
Release date: April 2017
This first-person horror game will plunge the player into an abyss of pure, uncluttered horror. You will have to hone your stealth skills, hiding from mad religious fanatics who chase the character - videographer Blake Langermann - through the deserted village of Arizona and flooded mines. Perhaps convinced Christians will not be thrilled with Outlast 2, but people who value high-quality horror movies "with madness" will definitely like the game.
5. Yooka Laylee
Release date: April 2017
It's rare to see a game that manages to reproduce the spirit of classic 3D platformers, and Yooka-Laylee - the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie - is one of those lucky finds. The two main characters - the chameleon Yuka and the bat Leili sitting on his head - can transform into various extraordinary forms in order to acquire new abilities. As the game progresses, they collect items to unlock new level worlds. Each level will have its own glavgad and arcade mini-games, and before the last boss there will also be a quiz, for which Banjo-Kazooie was famous.
4. Bayonetta
Release date: April 2017
Good things come to those who wait: now the story of the beautiful witch Bayonetta has reached the PC. Enjoy the rush of action in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. True, not everyone may like the absence of the Russian language in the game, the abundance of plot videos and a small number of opponents, but the levels in Bayonetta are very diverse and beautiful, the bosses are not similar in mechanics, and the eroticism of the main character is simply off scale.
3. Prey
Release date: May 2017
The first-person shooter, which bears little resemblance to the original Prey game, has attracted players and critics alike for its non-linear storyline and creative problem-solving approach.
On board a research vessel created to study a mysterious alien life form, the player will have to use their own ingenuity and alien abilities to survive, as the failure of this mission will destroy the station and, possibly, the entire Earth. Prey will have several endings depending on how the player interacted with the station survivors, used their abilities, and explored the station.
2. RiME
Release date: May 2017
A very beautiful and measured game that you want to play after a hard day at work. The main character in it is a boy who, after a shipwreck, found himself on a mysterious island and gradually reveals all its secrets. Amusing graphics, pleasant music and picturesque landscapes allow you to enjoy the gameplay one hundred percent.
1. Dirt 4
Release date: June 2017
Topping the rating of the best games of 2017 is a racing simulator, which is called "in the heat of the heat" (released on June 9). Players will compete against the clock on asphalt and off-road and in various weather conditions. The rally stages take place in five locations:
- Fitzroy, Australia,
- Tarragona, Spain,
- Michigan, USA,
- Värmland, Sweden
- Powys, Wales.
And the cars involved in the races are taken from a wide variety of time periods: the 80s and 90s of the last century, the 2000s and 2010. In the creation of the fourth game in the series, the stars of rally car racing took part - Chris Meeke and Petter Solberg.
