This scandalous film by French director Gaspard Noé features a plot told in reverse chronological order. The nine-minute scene of the cruel rape of the main character makes a particularly depressing impression on the viewer. A low-frequency soundtrack was written specifically for the film, causing some viewers to feel dizzy and nauseous.
9. The grave of the fireflies
The dramatic anime feature film was directed in 1988 by Japanese director Isao Takahata. The plot is based on real events and tells the story of a boy whose parents were killed during the Second World War. The film begins with the scene of the death of the protagonist, and all subsequent scenes bring the viewer to a tragic denouement.
8. Passion of Christ
This film was filmed about the last day of the life of Jesus Christ by actor and director Mel Gibson in 2004. The picture contains scenes of torture, torture, the cruelty of the crowd, the suffering of the mother and death, which appears to be deliverance from torment, are shown. The actors in the film speak Aramaic and Latin, with subtitles for the audience.

One of the most tragic films of Soviet cinema is dedicated to the feat of five young female volunteers who died in an unequal battle with German saboteurs in 1942. Despite the dramatic plot, the film was among the most recommended for viewing by high school students.

Alexey Balabanov's film was released in 2007. The film is set in the era of the decline of the USSR. The drama of the plot is given by the demonstration of the atrocity generated by the damage to the psyche, and public indifference.
