There are films that, when viewed, cause only one desire: to end what is happening on the screen as soon as possible. The rating of such boring films was compiled by NME magazine commissioned by Samsung, timed to coincide with the premiere of the film "Washing Machine". This cinematic masterpiece features a captivating 66-minute wash cycle in one continuous shot, accompanied by music from legendary songwriter Michael Nyman.
This is what the top 10 most boring and uninteresting movies of all time looks like. To create it, leading film critics were interviewed, as well as 2,000 British adults.
10. Seven years in Tibet
The rating of the most uninteresting cinema opens with a picture, after the release of which Brad Pitt and David Thewlis (performers of the main roles) were banned from entering China.
In the center of the plot is the German officer Heinrich Harrer, handsome, successful and famous. He has everything a true Aryan needs, but Henry wants more. And so, leaving his pregnant wife, Harrer, together with a friend, sets off to conquer the peak of Nanga Parbat. Having overcome many trials, experiencing both hunger and cold, he reaches the city of Lhasa, where the young, but not wise for years, Dalai Lama lives. Heinrich will have to spend seven whole years with him.
Although the film is quite beautiful and will certainly be of interest to those who are interested in the life, life and history of the Tibetan people, it also has a number of disadvantages. Among them: a protracted beginning and a demonstration of Brad Pitt's athletic body, supposedly exhausted by long wanderings, being in captivity and malnutrition.
If you decide to watch, then get ready for a calm and peaceful melodrama about the life and wanderings of two people, without spectacular fights and vivid special effects.
9. Vanilla sky
David Ames has everything his heart desires: beauty, wealth and a gorgeous woman. However, David's suddenly flared passion for the beautiful Sophia made his girlfriend Julianna jealous. She tried to commit suicide by arranging a car accident, and David, who was with her in the car, suffered a facial injury. After that, strange and inexplicable events begin to happen to him.
Many Hollywood stars of the first magnitude starred in this fantastic drama: Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Kurt Russell, Cameron Diaz. But picky viewers still found the picture boring and uninteresting, since flashbacks constantly appear, at first the timing is very stretched, and after the middle of the film, events begin to develop too quickly and incomprehensibly.
8. Australia
Before the outbreak of World War II, an English aristocrat who inherited a huge ranch in Australia comes to her new domain. She faces a difficult task - to drive 1,500 head of cattle to the city of Darwin.
Despite the wonderful tandem of actors - the leading roles were played by Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman - many viewers booed the film. So, in one of the reviews it is said that the film is overflowing with different genres, and they are not harmoniously combined, but presented separately, in parts.Australia begins as a funny comedy, then a melodrama, which gives way to adventure, and in the end the director remembers that he still has a little military battles in store. And all this is not too closely related to each other.
Fans of love stories unfolding against the backdrop of world cataclysms will most likely be interested in cinema. But don't expect anything special from him.
7. Artist
The seventh place in the rating of the most boring cinema in the world went to the film about the love of one of the best silent film actors George Valentine and extras Peppy Miller, a rising sound film star. And since the case, as conceived by the writers, takes place in 1927, viewers will see a black and white silent film about black and white silent cinema.
It is curious that at the Cannes Film Festival the prize for acting was awarded not only to the leading actor Jean Dujardin, but also to a dog named Uggs. This Jack Russell Terrier received a special Palm Dog prize, which is awarded annually for the best "dog" role in a movie.
6. Postman
The action of this picture takes place in the post-apocalyptic future. The main character (played by Kevin Costner) does not want to fight for the local despot - General Bethlehem. Having found a skeleton, dressed in the form of a postman, the hero begins to deliver mail, bringing happiness and hope to people who live separately in small settlements.
If you are waiting for an action packed action movie, you will surely be disappointed. This is a drama that lasts almost three hours, and its length can cause yawning. Patriotism that has set the teeth on edge, many, many shots of wildlife, American pathos - all this is in "Postman" and does not make it any better.
5. Transformers
The first five of the most uninteresting films are opened by Michael Bay's blockbuster about the war of alien robots, the Autobots and the Decepticons. The spectacular, special-effects film with a good cast was criticized for its plot full of clichés, too fast-paced robot battle scenes and a very boring start.
Modern cinema is very rich in computer graphics and special effects, so if you value films for entertainment, then do not waste time on "Transformers", now there are more worthy candidates. For example, "The Greatest Showman" is one of most anticipated films of the year.
4. Brokeback Mountain
A movie about two cowboys falling in love with each other is not liked by many viewers, not only because of the rejection of the homosexuality of the main characters, but also because of the boring plot, without a spark, without enthusiasm. For the first five minutes of the picture, not a single word is spoken in it.
There are no spectacular fights, no shootings between cowboys and Indians, no brave sheriffs and insidious villains. After all, a movie is not about that, a movie about love. And the nature in it is beautiful.
3. Star Wars. Episode I: The Phantom Menace
How boring can be a movie in a galaxy far, far away saga? It turns out that it can. People unfamiliar with Star Wars didn't like being shown the "half-tear-half boring story" of a boy who survived the races.
The rest of the characters, who should be bright and charismatic, speak more than act, the main villain remains somewhere behind the scenes, and the plot does not reveal much. Unless Jar Jar Binks makes the atmosphere of the film more fun. However, this clumsy eared creature simply infuriates many viewers. By the way, by one of the crazy fan theories he is a Sith Lord.
2. The Blair Witch: Coursework from the Other World
In second place in the list of the most boring films is "horror", filmed in the pseudo-documentary genre. Three students travel to a cursed forest in Maryland to film a documentary about a local legend - a terrible witch who kills those who invade her domain. Once in the forest, young people move away from the intended road and find themselves face to face with the otherworldly evil.
Due to the huge number of dialogues and the complete lack of action, not everyone will be able to see this picture to the end.
Despite the fact that both critics and viewers participating in the NME survey found this tape very boring, it got into the Guinness Book of Records due to the best cost-to-income ratio. Every dollar that went into the Blair Witch brought in $ 10,931 in revenue.
1. Fifty Shades of Gray
If it is still possible to argue with the choice of other participants in the selection of the most boring films, then this motion picture, without a doubt, deserves to top the list of dullness.
The story of a modest student Anastacia Steele and a wealthy handsome man, Christian Gray, whose tastes are “very specific,” has grossed over half a billion dollars at the box office and caused a stir in society. Some scolded her for promoting BDSM, others believed that the erotic scenes were prim and tedious, the third did not like the completely implausible main characters.
Of course, there are those who really liked Fifty Shades of Gray. But in many positive comments it is noted that the picture is "missing something."
Also on the list of the most uninteresting films were "Batman and Robin", "A Space Odyssey of 2001", "The Matrix: Revolution", "Showgirls" and "Cleopatra" in 1963.
Of course, your opinion may be exactly the opposite of that of the viewers and critics surveyed by NME. And if you like many (or all) of the films listed in this anti-rating, that's great. The world would be too boring if everyone had the same opinion on all controversial issues.
