With the start of the Summer Olympic Games, the attention of millions of people around the planet is riveted to the medal rankings of the Olympic teams. The athletes' achievements fill the hearts of fans with pride.
The current Summer Olympics are jubilee - they are the thirtieth in a row since 1986. The London Games are also a record number of sports - medals are played in 39 disciplines. For the first time in history, women boxers compete, and tennis is the venue for Olympic mixed doubles.
The Olympics took place until August 12. Every day brings new awards to the piggy banks of 204 countries, forming ranking of Olympic teams... Leadership in the number of medals is a reason for pride not only for athletes, but also for the nation as a whole. Russians, no doubt, have every reason to hope that the 2012 Olympics rating will clearly reflect the high achievements of our athletes. As part of the Russian national team, 286 athletes went to London: 228 women and 208 men from 59 regions. The average age of our team is 26 years.
The success of each team is evaluated according to two criteria: the total number of medals and the number of gold awards. The traditional favorites of the games are the national teams of the USA and China, although the hosts of the Olympics, the British national team, are showing really excellent results this year. The teams of South Korea, France, Italy and Germany are performing well.
Russia in the Olympic rankings for all the years of her performance at the Summer Games, she has invariably been included in the top three in terms of the amount of medals and the number of gold awards.
In addition, the current Olympics were intended to smooth out the unpleasant aftertaste from the 6th place won by our athletes at the 2010 Winter Games.
Among summer disciplines, Russians traditionally show outstanding results in athletics, rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, tennis, synchronized swimming, basketball and handball.
Sports experts predicted that Russia would fight for the third place in the number of gold medals at the end of the Games. In our piggy bank there were 24 awards of the highest dignity. The main rival of the Russians is the British team.
