Maintaining the health of mothers and children is the main indicator that this or that perinatal center is proud of. Taking into account the decrease in the population of Russia in 2017 by 31.1 thousand people, according to Rosstat, the decrease in infant and maternal mortality is of paramount importance for the demographic situation in the country.
Not all Russian perinatal centers agree to disclose data on the facts of fetal or newborn death before 7 days after birth. Such statistics are called "perinatal mortality". And only 34 specialized institutions were not afraid to share it. Thanks to their questioning at the “Roll Call of Perinatal Centers” held every year, the “Status Presence” media bureau managed to compile rating of the best perinatal centers in Russia in 2017.
In the subjects of the study, 796.2 thousand women were observed "in position", which is about 45% of all recorded pregnancies in Russia. Most pregnant women (100 thousand) were registered in Moscow, which is not surprising. The number of deliveries in all 34 centers was 759.6 thousand. Each participant in the survey was awarded points for various indicators.
- According to generalized information, 11.7 cases of perinatal mortality were recorded per 1000 children born (ppm).
- The highest infant mortality rate (26.1 ppm) was in the RCH. ON. Semashko (city of Simferopol). This is due to the regional specifics, since women with the most difficult cases get to such perinatal centers.

- A special item in the study was the caesarean section efficiency rate (CECS). This is the ratio of the cases of this operation and the death of babies. In 13 perinatal institutions, perinatal mortality due to CS was higher than in natural childbirth. The compilers of the rating noted that last year there was no medical institution with a good or excellent CEKS. And in 2017, there were 7 such institutions.
- Subjects also received scores for the weighted perinatal mortality rate (PMS). This is the death rate depending on how long the pregnant woman is.
- In addition, the correlation of PPP to perinatal mortality was taken into account. Thanks to this, it was possible to find out how effective the activities of the medical institution were in general.
