Rating of the best crossovers and SUVs 2017

Authoritative American publication Car and Driver has released a rating of the best crossovers and SUVs of 2017.

Each new or significantly revamped vehicle with a base price of less than $ 80,000 was compared to past winners for a week, after which each editor voted based on the following criteria: value, handling, safety and high tech.

Here are ten winners of the 2017 Best SUVs and All Terrain Vehicles hit parade. It includes a full-size pickup, a mid-size pickup, a minivan, and seven crossover categories.

10. Chrysler Pacifica

This sporty looking minivan can carry up to 7 people (and there is also an eight-seater version). Moreover, the third row in Pacifica can be occupied by passengers (boarding formula - 2 + 2 + 3) and at the same time there will be enough space behind it for luggage. Another highlight: For the first time, Chrysler has used independent rear suspension in its minivan. This improves the ride and handling even on difficult trails.

The base Pacifica comes with 287 hp. 3.6-liter V-6 engine, nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

The hybrid version is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine (248 hp) and a 16 kW battery pack. They are charged in a couple of hours and the minivan will be able to travel up to 48 km on the supply of electricity.

9. Ford F-150

A full-size pickup truck from a well-known American brand is in ninth position in the ranking. Its updated version of 2016-2017 received a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine (from 365 to 450 hp) and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Revolutionary aluminum body structure makes the Ford F-150 one of the lightest pickup trucks weighing up to half a ton. The manufacturer did not skimp on chrome, there is not just a lot of it in the car, but a lot. So, the middle element of the bumper is completely made of chrome. The car is very comfortable, the front seats have massage and electrical functions in 10 positions.

8. Honda Ridgeline

The mid-size pickup SUV is comfortable, practical and has good driving characteristics. The naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 engine packs 280 horsepower. The Ridgeline accelerates from 0 to 100 km per hour in just 6.6 seconds. This is faster than the latest Toyota Tacoma V-6 and Chevrolet Colorado V-6.

7. Mercedes-Benz GLS

The seventh number on the list of the best crossovers and SUVs is a full-size crossover with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine with 362 hp. Its build, driving dynamics and space saving are unrivaled by the Car and Driver experts. The transmission of this crossover is a 9-speed automatic with a manual shift mode. The air suspension ensures perfect stability and control of the machine when fully loaded.

6. Audi Q7

The base, updated version of the premium mid-size crossover is offered with a 252bhp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. And the more advanced version is equipped with a 333 hp engine. Transmission eight-speed automatic with manual shift mode. From 0 to 100 km per hour, the car accelerates in 5.5 seconds. The pride of this car is a huge number of entertainment and assistance systems, including adaptive cruise, virtual panel, traffic jam assistant and speaker system with three-dimensional sound.

5. Mazda CX-9

A car from the mid-size crossover segment with a spacious interior, high-quality assembly materials and a sleek exterior with narrow taillights, an aggressive bumper and an enlarged spoiler. There are two versions: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Under the hood is a 2.5-liter turbo engine with 254 hp.

4. Porsche Macan

Compact 5-seater premium SUV with a sporty accent. The GTS version accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds thanks to its 360 hp at 6000 rpm. The base model Porsche Macan is more modest, only 252 hp. (2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine). All trim levels include: a rear-view camera, parking sensors, 8 electric seat adjustments, cruise control, heated front seats, three-zone climate control and 8 airbags.

3. Honda CR-V

The compact crossover has consistently ranked in the top 10 best-selling cars in America. It combines spectacular dynamics, interior beauty, safety and confident driving behavior. The basic version is offered with a 190 hp engine, CVT, full power accessories, cruise control, air conditioning, tilted steering wheel, CD player, surveillance cameras, audio system, Bluetooth and connections for audio system and telephone.

2. BMW X1

A premium subcompact SUV with front-wheel drive, transverse engine and front-wheel drive chassis, which is very different from other offerings of the brand. It is also one of the few small crossovers with a truly spacious passenger compartment and versatile cargo hold. Engine 2.0-liter turbocharged 228 hp, automatic eight-speed gearbox with manual shift.

1. Kia Soul

Topping the 2017 list of SUVs and SUVs is a subcompact crossover that combines good looks with practicality and an attractive price tag. The 2017 model received an updated front bumper with matte black dies and two upgraded engines: a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline (130 hp) and a 1.6-liter diesel with 136 hp.
