Information is collected not through polls, but with the help of special devices that are built into televisions with the consent of citizens. The rating of the most popular TV channels in Russia is opened by TV Center, which has gone from a local Moscow channel to the “first multiplex”, or “three O” - all-Russian, public and compulsory in 20 years. The target audience of the channel is women from 25 years old. And the broadcast format is appropriate - a mixture of programs about cooking, family relationships, a little renovation, a little travel and a lot of cute animals.
A special place on the channel is occupied by some of the best Russian TV series, loved by Russian viewers since the days of "Slave Izaura". Domashny's own creative kitchen produces them in large quantities, like hot cakes, but does not disdain foreign additives either.
Recently, the former owner of CTC Media, Ivan Tavrin, sold 75% of the company's shares (in addition to Domashny, it also includes the seventh place in the rating, CTC). The new owner of the holding is Media Investments JSC. It is not yet known how this will affect the broadcasting format of Domashny.
8. TNT
If Domashniy focuses on women over 25, TNT is a channel for students and young professionals. Most of the channel's audience is between 18 and 35 years old.
The main direction of the channel is purely entertainment. The lion's share of the broadcasting network is filled with television shows (for example, the famous Comedy Club), as well as comedy series. Some of them played the role of forerunners for Russian television, giving rise to new directions in the art of making the viewer laugh. TNT is also the leader in the number of views on the RuNet. Internet viewers make up almost 2.5% of the total.
7. STS
This TV channel is most interesting for teenagers, since its viewership is mainly people aged 12 to 17. Recently STS launched an original novelty - the show "Success". This is the Russian version of The Final Four, which combines the musical competition of non-professional performers with reality TV and a survival game. Perhaps this will allow the channel to compensate for the loss of the production group Yellow, Black & White, which created such hits as "Kitchen" and "Eleon".
6. Fifth channel
This is a popular St. Petersburg TV channel, which during its existence has dramatically changed its concept several times and radically revised its broadcast network. At the moment, the "Fifth" has decided to almost completely abandon the socio-political aspect. And they significantly "cut" the number of entertainment programs.
Now "The Fifth" is a serial channel, and it broadcasts serials of its own production. The series turned out to be so popular that in the middle of last year, Channel Five launched international broadcasting.
5. REN TV
Belongs to National Media Group, which also includes the Fifth and First channels. Jokes about the fact that the director of this channel is an alien are based on the specifics of the programs offered to viewers.
REN TV specializes mainly in shocking secrets, mystical forces and sinister conspiracies, as well as scandals, intrigues and investigations. Viewers hold mysticism and secrets in high esteem, and REN TV ranks fifth in the rating of the best Russian TV channels in 2019.
However, this coin also has a downside. Thanks to its non-standard content, REN TV was even awarded an “Anti-Prize” from the Ministry of Education for disseminating anti-scientific and false information.
4. NTV
The Russian people love serials. For NTV, the best TV series over the past year was Dinosaur, a comedy from the life of criminal elements, rude outside, but kind (somewhere deep) inside. He is followed in terms of the number of views by the permanent Gosha Kutsenko in the series "Ambulance", and the provincial detective "Balabol" closes the gold three.
In general, NTV, like other major TV channels, continues to lose viewers. If before 2010 the lion's share of views was in the big three - NTV, Channel One and Russia 1, then later views decreased by almost a third. 3. Channel One
If the second place in the popularity rating of TV channels, "Russia 1", is the leader in watching TV series and movies, then Channel One holds the palm in entertainment programs. The people continue to love Maxim Galkin, who hosts three shows on the First Channel at once:

- "Stars under hypnosis."
And all three have the highest viewing share not only on First Channel, but also on television channels in general.
The audience of Channel One is conservative, the TV people themselves complain about this, claiming that it is the viewers who are to blame for the abundance of Blue Lights with stars. However, "The First" is not afraid to offer its "conservatives" new shows, such as the Russian adaptation of the Japanese Sasuke, which is also in the American version of Ninja Warrior. In Russia, this sports show is called "Russian Ninja". The tests in it are so difficult that so far not a single participant has reached the finish line.
Channel One is also actively exploring the online space, which added 1.7% of its audience, according to Big TV. Perhaps, in this way, the “First” is trying to strengthen its shaky positions. At the end of 2018, it became known that his position was not brilliant. The channel is even trying to knock out regular subsidies from the budget to keep the ship afloat.
2.Russia 1
The heiress of the central television of the USSR still occupies a leading position in terms of the number of views. Serials, especially Russian ones, are the most popular among the Russian audience, and here Russia 1 is a worthy competitor to both Domashniy and NTV.Some of the most popular TV series on Russia 1 include “our answer to Dr. House” - “Sklifosofsky” and “Birch” - a drama about the working life of a dance group.
Although movies are watched less than TV series, "Russia 1" also managed to come out on top thanks to the screening of "The Last Hero". This is a good illustration of the preferences of the "age" audience that watches "Russia 1". Most of all, this channel is popular with people over 55 years old.
1. Measured thematic TV
Under this unusual name for the uninitiated, there is a kind of conglomerate of TV channels. Mediascope experts call “Measured Topical TV” channels whose broadcasting is subordinated to some common goal. A striking example is the Discovery Channel, where you can watch popular science programs about the wildlife, human history or the development of technology.
- In terms of the number of views in this segment, the leading channels are those that show movies and TV series (for example, Dom Kino, the horror channel Real Horror Movie, the action-packed Russian Detective).
- In second place are educational TV channels ("Living Planet", Viasat History, etc.).
- In third place are children's channels, which are popular both among children themselves and among their parents. After all, only after sitting down a child to watch cartoons, parents get long-awaited minutes of peace. Among the most popular children's TV channels in Russia are Mult and Cartoon Network.
