The annual Golden Raspberry Award, also known as the Razzie Award, recognizes the worst achievement Hollywood has to offer.
Razzie winners are traditionally announced on the same weekend as the Oscars. The nominees for the "Golden Raspberry" are determined by 1000 members of the group, which includes representatives from every US state (except Montana) and 26 countries of the world.
Below are the top 7 Golden Raspberry winners of 2018 (who are also technically “losers”).
7. Nomination "Worst Actor"
The expression “It used to be better” fully refers to the movie “The Mummy” and Tom Cruise who starred in it. The 1999 film starring Brendan Fraser was a wonderful family blockbuster, with exciting adventures and an interesting love story and good situational humor. However, the new film adaptation, despite the rethinking of the plot and the replacement of the main villain with the main villainess, failed to repeat the success of its predecessor.
Part of the blame for the failure lies with screenwriter Alex Kurtzman, who has already received the Golden Raspberry for his Transformers script. He mixed the ancient Egyptian princess, crusaders, Dr. Jekyll and secret cults in a bunch, spiced it all up with explosions and chases, added a big spoonful of cliches and platitudes, and dumped on the viewer, hoping that "it will do well." It didn’t come off.
However, one should not forget about the "brilliant performance" of the actors. So, the recognized Hollywood handsome Tom Cruise played so inexpressive and boring that he rightfully earned the audience's "anti-prize". His character is uninteresting and not fully revealed, even his love relationship with the main character is hard to believe. The logic of actions? Heroism and charisma? No, you haven't.
6. Nomination "Worst Actress"
In the comedy horror film Madea's Halloween 2, the black actor Tyler Perry played not only the main character's father, but also her nanny Madea. Considering that the picture scored only 3.5 points out of 10 on the Imdb website, Perry clearly failed to repeat the success of other actors who managed to brilliantly transform into female characters.
As one viewer wrote, “Tyler Perry sacrificed quality and morals for a quick buck and cheap, lewd jokes. Don't waste your time on this slag. "
5. Nomination "Worst Supporting Actor"
Hardly having given consent to shoot in the film “Hello, Dad, New Year! 2 "Mel Gibson assumed that he would receive an award for the most unfortunate supporting role.
He plays the brutal, albeit gray-haired father of one of the main characters. Gibson's character is not averse to drinking, telling a dirty joke, or hitting on a random beauty. Perhaps because of this, he was not well received by the Western audience. On the Russian Kinopoisk, reviews about the actor's play are much softer. Some even call it "the best part of the movie."
4. Nomination "Worst Supporting Actress"
It's hard to say what made Kim Basinger star in the most boring and uninteresting film of all time - Fifty Shades Darker. But this was clearly not a good idea, given that the actress was awarded the Golden Raspberry for her work in 2017.
Basinger played the role of the former lover of “specific billionaire” Christian Gray, who opened the world of perverted sexual pleasures to him. But even her talent did not manage to dilute the atmosphere of dullness and dullness that permeated this movie. Many spectators noted how Kim's face has changed (and not for the better), after all, age makes itself felt.
3. Nomination "Worst Remake, Sequel or Plagiarism"
And again the erotic melodrama "Fifty Shades Darker" bypassed all competitors in the anti-rating of Hollywood films. An implausible and boring plot, "wooden play" of actors, lack of "chemistry" between the main characters - this is not a complete list of the shortcomings of this "masterpiece". If you are looking for dark passions and violent experiences, off-scale sexuality, and even a hint of bdsm-themed, then this is clearly not about "Fifty Shades Darker".
2. Nomination "Worst Film of the Year"
In the rating of the winners of "Golden Raspberry", "Emoji Film" stands apart. He became not only the worst movie of 2017, but also received a separate award for the worst acting duo. And its director Tony Leondis was named the worst representative of his profession.
This simple cartoon tells the story of an emoji named Jin. Together with two of his brothers, he travels through the smartphone apps of teenager Alex.
Critics greeted the cartoon coldly, evaluating it as "unfunny" and even "downright idiotic."
Emoji Film reminded some Russian viewers of the film Hack Bloggers. It's just as absurd, uninteresting, and full of product placement.
1. Nomination "A film so ugly that I even like it"
This Special Award from Rotten Tomatoes went to Rescuers Malibu. The history of the beach lifeguard team, one part of which is beautiful and the other strong, was received ambiguously by viewers and critics alike. This is because this motion picture is not as bad as expected, but also not so good as to spend almost 2 hours of your time on it.
Rescuers Malibu has both comedic and dramatic components, but the film has not yet decided what it is. However, the abundance of jokes "below the belt", and naked torsos, both male and female, will surely please those who just want to mindlessly relax in front of the screen.
Interesting fact
In the history of the film industry there have been cases when the same film was nominated for both the Golden Raspberry and the Oscar. This was the case with 1987's The Wolf of Wall Street. The leading actor Michael Douglas was awarded an Oscar for the leading male role, but his partner Daryl Hannah received the Golden Raspberry for the worst supporting actress.
