History of the reign of Henry VIII, when he was not yet obese and bearded. Despite some historical "bloopers" (Henry in reality was red-haired, the king's sister was called Mary, not Margaret, Heinrich Fitzroy died 17 years old, and not at the age of 6-7, etc.), the series makes a wonderful work, showing the interaction of passions and politics, luxurious costumes, palace interiors, and an addictive atmosphere of palace intrigue. For all this "The Tudors" and got into the top 3 best historical series.
2. Deadwood "Deadwood" (2004-2006)
Search rating: 8.1
IMDb rating: 8.8
The historical drama by David Milch takes us to rural South Dakota in 1870. Although the series has only three seasons, it has managed to show how a small mining camp called Deadwood is gradually turning into a city. And all this in the harsh realities of the Wild West, when murders were as mundane as, say, drinking in a saloon. Although it takes place in the late 19th century, Milch did not include foul language in the series; instead, the heroes say "Curse!" and "come on!"
In "Deadwood" you will not find washed and slicked handsome men depicting noble cowboys and no less noble Indians. This series is for those who want to see without embellishment how the country that is now called the United States of America came into being.Unsanitary conditions and disease, death and blood, brothels and the gold rush, all spiced with good irony.
1. Rome "Rome" (2005-2007)
Search rating: 8.5
IMDb rating: 8.9
He headed the best historical serials of foreign production. The collaboration between HBO and the BBC has proven extremely fruitful. It combined HBO's penchant for harsh and uncompromising drama with the BBC's habit of carefully checking the facts of the show and bringing in an all-star cast. It is unlikely that any other series would have succeeded so brilliantly, in detail, and most importantly, to realistically show the transformation of Rome from a republic to an empire, to win a high rating of viewers.
The series, spanning 2 seasons, shows the rise of Julius Caesar and the impact he has on the citizens of Rome in general. The lustful sexual mores of the antique period are beautifully depicted. "Rome" is worth watching for those who want to learn about the greedy, cruel, depraved, but at the same time, bright and interesting life of the Eternal City, shown through the eyes of ordinary citizens (the two main characters - Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pulion).
