It's no secret that most of the tallest buildings in Russia are concentrated in Moscow. True, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg are trying to catch up with the capital as much as possible - if not in quantity, then in height. The top 10 includes buildings that meet the following criteria: the height of the structure with all the architectural elements; if one of the towers of the building was already in the rating, the second, smaller one, was not considered.

10. Tower "Iset", height 212.8 meters
The rating of skyscrapers is opened by the only building included in the top 10, and at the same time located not in Moscow. This is the Iset Tower, built in Yekaterinburg. The initial project was curly decorated with balconies, and we can only rejoice that later it was decided to limit ourselves to the most laconic decor. The tower looks modern and minimalistic - just what the city center needs. Its peculiarity is the absence of viewing platforms at the top, since the building is intended primarily for residential apartments.
Its height is 212.8 m, there are 52 floors in the building.
Until 2016, the Iset Tower was the northernmost skyscraper of the Earth already built. However, upon completion of construction, the St. Petersburg Lakhta Center promises to take this title from Iset, because it will be 3.5 degrees north of the Yekaterinburg skyscraper, and, in addition, 250 meters higher. The Lakhta Center construction project should be completed in 2018.
9. House on Mosfilmovskaya, 213 meters
Unlike most of the rating participants, which are mainly given over to offices, the "House on Mosfilmovskaya" is entirely residential. It consists of two towers of different heights, which are connected by a low longitudinal hull. The highest building is 52-storey, and the second building is 34-storey, slightly inclined towards the first and decreasing upward. According to the project manager, architect Sergey Skuratov, the house looks like a hyperscale snail.
Depending on the season and the number of residents in the house, its temperature regime is regulated.
Interestingly, for the construction of a building of such height due to the proximity to the Novodevichy Convent (they feared that the new skyscraper would obscure the ancient monastery), it was decided to send the project to Paris for UNESCO approval. Approval was obtained and in 2012 the building was officially commissioned.
The total height of the house is 213 m.
8. The main building of Moscow State University, 240 meters
In eighth place in the ranking is the ageless veteran, built back in 1953, on the initiative of J.V. Stalin. One of the most beautiful and memorable structures of Soviet architecture is also popular abroad - it was here that a light show by Jean Michel Jard was staged on the celebration of the 850th anniversary of Moscow.
If you look at the building, it seems that its spire and star at the top of the spire and the ears framing it are made of gold, but this is an illusion. The gilding would quickly disappear under the influence of rain and wind. Therefore, the creators of the building covered the spire, together with the star and the ears, with yellow glass plates, and their inner part is covered with aluminum. But even this decision did not save the glass parts from destruction, some of them crumbled, this can be seen if you look at the top of the building with binoculars.
The height of the building is 240 m (including the spire), and there are only 36 floors.
7. Business complex "Imperia" (Imperia Tower), 240.6 meters
The history of the creation of almost all modern Moscow skyscrapers has been marred by monetary conflicts and lawsuits. Imperia Tower is no exception - it survived a litigation between the two companies, but was safely completed and commissioned in 2011.
The building is 240.6 m high. Interestingly, with a very minimal difference with the previous rating in terms of height, the difference in number of storeys is much more significant - almost twice. The length of all the "imperial" pipelines is also surprising, it is 139 kilometers, which is more than the length of the Moscow Ring Road (108.9 kilometers).
In order to prevent emergencies with the equipment for supplying heat, water and air, installed in the "Empire", "back-ups" have been prepared for it. All this takes 20,100 kilovolt-amperes. This capacity is sufficient to provide electricity to one of the Moscow neighborhoods.
6. Triumph Palace, 264.1 meters
Another "residential" high-rise in the rating. Only the last three premises of the "Triumph Palace" are given over to the hotel, which proudly bears the name of the highest in Europe. Each number in it copies the style of one of the cities in the world.
The skyscraper building is classic, designed in the style of Moscow architecture of the middle of the last century (the so-called "Stalinist skyscrapers"), including such a recognizable element as the spire. All sections of the house are united by a 5-storey stylobate. French windows, bay windows and corner stained-glass windows of the Triumph Palace look very beautiful and unusual.
The height of the building with a spire is 264.1 m, and it has 57 floors.
5. Tower on the Embankment, 268.4 meters
Strictly speaking, the "Tower on the Embankment" is three different buildings, united by a common base.
- The first, the smallest, is only 17 floors high;
- the second is already higher - 27 floors;
- but the third is 268.4 m high and has 61 floors.
The construction of the complex was completed in 2007, and for two years the Tower was considered the tallest building in Moscow - until it was overtaken by the fourth place in the rating. By the way, unlike the giants of Moscow City, Enka built the skyscraper exclusively with its own funds and did not apply for a loan from Sberbank.
4. City of Capitals, 301.8 meters
The skyscraper located in Moscow City consists of two high-rise buildings, in appearance reminiscent of a child's attempts to assemble a tower from cubes. The skyscrapers were named after two capitals - the state capital and the cultural capital.
Of course (the Muscovites built it) "Moscow" came out higher (301.8 m), and "St. Petersburg" - lower (256.9 m). And they are connected by a building of only 18 floors.
In 2010, the City of Capitals entered the top 10 best skyscrapers on Earth according to Emporis Standards. Until 2011, the Moscow Tower bore the title of the tallest building in the CIS, but after the completion of monolithic works on the Moscow skyscraper Mercury City Tower, this title passed to him.
3. Skyscraper "Eurasia", 308.9 meters
It was decided to make the project of the next skyscraper from Moscow City with a classic look with a slight hint of modernity. Only a sharp transition from a wider to a narrower part of the building remained from Art Nouveau, vaguely reminiscent of the architecture of Stalin's high-rises in Moscow.
This turquoise, titanic-looking building has been haunted by scandals since birth - from the suspension of financing by Sberbank due to criminal cases brought against the top management of the Eurasia project, right up to claims for overdue loans. Whatever it was, in 2013 the project was completed.
The building is 308.9 m high and has 71 floors.
2. Mercury City Tower, 339 meters
If almost all skyscrapers in Moscow City are designed in a metallic blue color scheme, which is traditional for high-rise buildings, the Mercury Tower stands out from the general row - it is golden yellow.
It was originally planned to make it “only” 322 meters high, but four years after the start of the project it was decided to add another 17 meters to the building. Thus, the height of the building increased to 339 m, and the number of storeys - to 75.
The building's appearance and structural features were so good that they were honored to be among the top 10 skyscrapers in the world according to the Emporis Skyscraper Award.
1. Federation Tower, 373.7 meters
"Tower" represents two buildings, two compositionally and stylistically uniform high-rises, standing on the same base. The one that is lower (242.4 m) is "West". And it is dominated by Vostok, a gigantic 97-storey building 373.7 m high.
During the construction of a building of such a scale, architects and builders had to face difficulties - at first the size of the foundation was incorrectly calculated, which led to the need for its "superstructure". As a result, the building lost one underground floor. And in 2012, the still unfinished "Vostok" caught fire and for quite a long time played the role of a giant torch over Moscow - the spectacle was perfectly visible many kilometers from the fire. But despite all the difficulties, in mid-November 2017 the project was finally completed.
Lakhta Center, 462 meters (under construction)
True, the laurels of the Federation Tower as the tallest building in Russia will soon come under threat. The northern capital joined the competition - its Lakhta Center promises to become the second tallest building in Europe, second only to the Ostankino TV tower. The views from the upper floors must be amazing.
